Since opening our doors in 1997, we have worked with a wide variety of clients on a vast amount of projects. From restaurant openings to art festivals and press conferences, we have done it all. Check out a sample of our work to get to know us better and see what we can do for you.
Saul Markowitz(President)
Saul Markowitz has always been a storyteller. He began his career in the public relations department for the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. At the ripe young age of 24, he moved down the street and he took the stage as the first manager of public relations and promotions for the newly-restored $42 million Benedum Center for the Performing Arts. Following that, he took on the role of director of public relations at Carnegie Mellon University’s College of Fine Arts. Three years later, he journeyed into the wild to become the first director of marketing and public relations at The Pittsburgh Zoo as a newly formed private non-profit organization.
On April Fool’s Day of 1997, he decided to open his very own agency (no kidding). After 20 years, Saul and Bonnie Markowitz and staff have established a reputation as the small firm that’s able and ready to take on clients of any size.
For fun, Saul plays ice hockey with a bunch of old dudes, where he anchors the infamous “Deli Line.” He loves nothing more than setting up teammates for an easy goal–which is sort of what he does in PR, as well.

Bonnie Markowitz(Vice President)
Bonnie Markowitz has a well-rounded background. In 1997, she joined husband, Saul, in opening Markowitz Communications. While Saul is in the forefront of the agency, Bonnie manages internal financial, human resources, and overall daily activities in the agency. Bonnie has also been active in the PTO of her (and Saul’s) son’s school and has served as an elected member of the elementary school’s site-based management team as well as the chair of the school’s Traveling Arts Educational Program.
Michael Machosky(Account Services Associate)
Michael Machoskyhas had more than 2,200 stories published in top-25 market metropolitan newspapers, including the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review/Trib Total Media’s constellation of papers and websites.
Just about every day for more than 15 years, he had to learn something new—enough to write about it authoritatively—and have it read by an audience of 350,000+ people. He has become very good at conducting research quickly, and finding the right people to interview, to explain complex subjects to the general public.
He has worked as a movie critic, a restaurant critic, and a reporter covering music, art, movies, history, books, food, neighborhoods, technology and design, among many other things. Mike is currently a staff writer for NEXTpittsburgh, and still contributes to the Tribune-Review and several other media outlets, both print and online.
Mike Schroeder(Account Services Associate)
Previous to his gig at Markowitz Communications Mike served as a marketing assistant to the agents at Berkshire Hathaway where he designed a diverse catalog of marketing materials to promote agents and the agency itself. As a previous intern with MC Mike is very familiar with the office’s client-based, storytelling approach, and has already worked with a number of the agency’s clientele.
A lifelong Pittsburgher and avid hockey fan, Mike is always game to talk pucks on his very own podcast! The only thing he loves more than hockey are his 2 Pit Bulls, Hattie (named of course for “Hat Trick”) and Woolly. When he’s not producing It’s A Hockey Night podcast, Mike spends his free time rollerblading or biking around the city and its river-trails. A graduate of Chatham University Mike studied Communications/Public Relations as part of the University’s historic first-ever undergrad co-ed class.
