Our Philosophy is Simple.

You have a story—one that’s very important to you. Everybody does. At Markowitz Communications, we want to help you tell that story. No matter the medium, whatever the platform, we can help sharpen, refine and bring out the drama in your story.

We offer our clients a proactive, integrated approach to marketing and public relations. In everything we do, we are always looking to maximize our clients’ promotional efforts, while minimizing their expenditures. We offer everything from general public relations to crisis communications, media relations to social media, and much more.

When you hire Markowitz Communications, the President of the agency, Saul Markowitz, is at your service 24/7, no matter how large or small the task.  He oversees and implements all facets of the account. He pitches the media.  He goes to meetings.  He’s involved in the day-to-day business of our clients.

Our Team

Saul-Markowitz-Communications-PR-Pittsburgh

Saul Markowitz  (President)  Saul Markowitz has always been a storyteller. He began his career in the public relations department for the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.  At the ripe young age of 24, he moved down the street and he took the stage as the first manager of public relations and promotions for the newly-restored $42 million Benedum Center for the Performing Arts.  Following that, he took on the role of director of public relations at Carnegie Mellon University’s College of Fine Arts. Three years later, he journeyed into the wild to become the first director of marketing and public relations at The Pittsburgh Zoo as a newly formed private non-profit organization.

On April Fool’s Day of 1997, he decided to open his very own agency (no kidding).  After 20 years, Saul and Bonnie Markowitz and staff have established a reputation as the small firm that’s able and ready to take on clients of any size.

For fun, Saul plays ice hockey with a bunch of old dudes, where he anchors the infamous “Deli Line.” He loves nothing more than setting up a teammates for an easy goal–which is sort of what he does in PR, as well.

Bonnie-Markowitz-Communications-PR-Pittsburgh

Bonnie Markowitz  (Vice President)  has a well-rounded background. In 1997, she joined husband, Saul, in opening Markowitz Communications. While Saul is in the forefront of the agency, Bonnie manages internal financial, human resources, and overall daily activities in the agency. Bonnie has also been active in the PTO of her (and Saul’s) son’s school and has served as an elected member of the elementary school’s site-based management team as well as the chair of the school’s Traveling Arts Educational Program.

Michael Machosky  (Account Services Associate) has had more than 2,200 stories published in top-25 market metropolitan newspapers, including the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review/Trib Total Media’s constellation of papers and websites.

Just about every day for more than 15 years, he had to learn something new—enough to write about it authoritatively—and have it read by an audience of 350,000+ people. He has become very good at conducting research quickly, and finding the right people to interview, to explain complex subjects to the general public.

He has worked as a movie critic, a restaurant critic, and a reporter covering music, art, movies, history, books, food, neighborhoods, technology and design, among many other things. Mike is currently a staff writer for NEXTpittsburgh, and still contributes to the Tribune-Review and several other media outlets, both print and online.

Livia Rice  (Account Services Associate) is a graduate of Point Park University where she majored in Sports, Arts, and Entertainment Management and minored in both Accounting and Business Management. She arrived at Markowitz Communications from VisitPittsburgh where she worked on co-operative marketing campaigns for various partners. At VisitPittsburgh, she assisted in media planning and buying and lead the Marketing Department’s content strategy efforts, among other responsibilities. Prior to her position at VisitPittsburgh, she worked in event planning and fundraising. While she’s proud of her professional accomplishments, Livia is more likely to brag about her coffee knowledge and love for Pittsburgh and its 90 unique neighborhoods.

“Saul and his team did an outstanding job garnering press for one of our events in Pittsburgh. He’s extremely creative and used his many connections to create a successful PR campaign, which resulted in several media hits. He was involved with the media pitching every step of the way. So much so that he even lost his voice talking to reporters. Our only regret is that there isn’t a Markowitz Communications in all of our markets. Saul is a true professional, and we look forward to working with him again.”
